What You Need To Know

Important Information Before Your Event

We want to ensure that all our Competitors, and their family, friends and spectators have a safe, enjoyable and entertaining day. To help us achieve this, please read the following important information.

Whilst you’re participating in your event or in and around any of the facilities, please ensure you follow all signs and/or the instructions of our Marshalls.

 

Event Start Times

Each event will start promptly at the advertised time, so please ensure you complete Pre-Race Registration in good time. 

 

Marathon: Starts 9:30 – Ensure you complete Registration by 9:00

Senior Walk: Starts 10:00 – Ensure you complete Registration by 9:30

Shorter Walk: Starts 10:00 – Ensure you complete Registration by 9:30

Junior Walk: Starts 12:30 - Ensure you complete Registration by 12.00*

Family Walk: Starts 12:45 - Ensure you complete Registration by 12.15*

 

*A Pre-event Safety Breifing will take place at 12.15 for all Junior Walk participants and at 12:30 for Family Walk participants.

Start & Finish Locations

The Marathon, Metric Marathon, Senior Walk and Shorter Walk all start from the High Street, High Town Bridgnorth WV16 4DX.

Junior and Family Walks will start from Cleobury North Village Hall (WV16 6RP).

You can find the Start Point at Cleobury North on Google Maps, or using OS Reference East 362318 North 286802 or the What3Words address is anthems.taller.bead.

 

 

 

Junior Walk - Safeguarding

We treat the safety and care of our youngest participants with the greatest importance. We have a number of Safeguarding Marshalls stationed along the Junior Walk route, starting from Cleobury North Village Hall.  These Marshalls can be easily identified by their Pink Hi Vis Jackets.

If any young person has any concern either before, during or after their event, they can raise this immediately with a Safeguarding Marshall.

Alternatively, a young person can alert staff at the nearest Water Station.

How To Get There

This years Walk offers a great day out as well as a social occasion for all abilities.

All our walks will be monitored and managed to offer a safe environment for participants.

Bridgnorth Lions use a professional road management company to ensure that the correct signage is in place to offer maximum safety for participants and volunteers alike.

Outriders will also be present to help keep walkers and runners safe. While we do ask walkers to use "common sense" we do all we can to ensure a safe environment.

Please be aware that there will be a number of road closures around Bridgnorth and on the road to Cleobury North. Therefore please allow additional time for your journey.

Road Closures & Restrictions

Marathons and Senior Walks at High Town

Road closures and restrictions will be mainly on roads leading to the High Street, specifically Whitburn St, Northgate and Listley St. Other roads around the town centre will have restricted access/traffic control in place during the day. We recommend competitors use the public car parks mentioned below.

Junior & Family Walks at Cleobury North

The B4364 between Bridgnorth and Cleobury North will be closed heading towards Ludlow/Cleobury North between 9.30am and 3pm approx.

We suggest you use one of the following alternative routes to access Cleobury North. 

PLEASE NOTE - if you are traveling from Bridgnorth to Cleobury North we recommend you use Route 2 below via A458 and B4368. This is due to poor road conditions on the B4364 Criddon/Ditton Priors road.

 

 

Access to Cleobury North - Alternative Route 1

Anyone travelling to Cleobury North from Bridgnorth can take an alternative route by leaving the B4364 at the right fork turning marked Criddon/Ditton Priors (please note this route is unsuitable for Large Vehicles).

Once you reach Ditton Priors, follow the signs for Cleobury North. Please note there may be some delays in Ditton Priors to ensure the safety of competitors on the roads.

Access to Celobury North - Alternative Route 2

Take the A458 from Bridgnorth towards Much Wenlock for approximately 2 miles. As you pass though Morville, take the left hand turning onto the B4368 marked Craven Arms/Ludlow. Follow the road through Aston Eyre and Monkhopton, Continue on this road turning left towards Ditton Priors after aproximately 4 miles.

At Ditton Priors follow the signs for Cleobury North. Please note there will delays in Ditton Priors to ensure the safety of competitors on the roads.

Parking is available near to the Start in High Town, and at Cleobury North Village Hall.

First Aid Facilities

Mobile First Responders will be located at High Town and Cleobury North.

If you have a serious or life threatening accident/incident whilst on the course, dial 999 immediately.

For minor in injuries please contact 07396 801606 to request assistance.

Alternatively, make your way to the next Water Station (approx. 1 mile apart) who will contact our First Responders directly.

Water Stations

A total of 23 Water Stations are located approximately every mile along the route, offering free bottled water to all participants. Please only take what you need until the next station. Also if you need assistance on route, staff at Water Stations can contact Marshalls.

 

Entertainment & Hospitality

This year there will be a range of food and drink vendors at Northgate in High Town and at Cleobury North Village Hall. There will also be FREE live entertainment at Northgate between 12:00 and 4:00.

At Cleobury North Village Hall there will be plenty to entertain the kids (big and small). There's a Bouncy Castle, Fairground Rides and Food Vendors, as well as a Bar!!

So why don't you make a day of it?

Bring along a few friends and neighbours to help spur you along, and whilst you're putting in the miles, they can be sampling the best of Bridgnorth hospitality.

As well as the food and entertainment at Northgate there will be a Craft Fair in the High Street, with local artisans selling the best of local produce.

 

PLEASE NOTE - Due to limited connectivity at Cleobury North Village Hall vendor sales will be Cash Only.

General Safety Awareness

The events take place on a mix of public roads and off road bridleways and footpaths.

A few general safety suggestions

  • Ensure you wear suitable footwear. The routes cross several fields so we recommend suitable walking shoes/boots. The Family Walk in on tarmac surfaces, but we still suggest you wear suitable strong footwear.
  • Be aware of traffic – some roads will be temporarily closed, however others will have manged traffic control, so look out for vehicles.
  • Where possible walk facing the oncoming trafic - dependant on traffic management this could be either side of the road, so please ensure you follow Marshalls instructions/signage.
  • Toilet Facilities (Portaloo's) will be available on route. Please note toilet facilities will be available at Cleobury North Village Hall, but no facilities will be open at Ditton Priors Village Hall.
  • Be aware of the route signage – your event route will be clearly marked.
  • Always follow the instructions of Route Marshalls
