The 26 Mile Marathon
Starts at 9.30 from High St Bridgnorth
Early Bird Offer £40.00 before 28th Feb. £45.00 After.
The Full Marathon is a major challenge for both experienced runners and for those attempting this distance for the first time.
The 26.66 mile route has both on and off-road sections with the route climbing from 233ft to 1739ft above sea level, incurring an overall accent of 3133ft. The on-road section from Bridgnorth to the Brown Clee Hill and back accounts for just over 19 miles. However, the toughest part is the Brown Clee Hill section. On forest trails, steep banks and stony tracks, the route loops round Shropshire’s highest hill before the undulating return to Bridgnorth.
Runners should not underestimate the seriousness of the challenge.
The Famous Bridgnorth Walk
Starts at 10.00 High St Bridgnorth
Early Bird Offer £22.00 per person before 28th Feb. £25 After.
An estimated 25,000 walkers of all ages, shapes and sizes have walked this event since the beginning. The minimum age to walk is 15…while many participants are well into their seventies or even eighties !
The full course (including the route up Brown Clee) is 21.5 miles (34.7 km). The event starts at 10.00 am in Bridgnorth High St.
Walkers have the option of not going to the Brown Clee summit, reducing the mileage to 19.8 miles (31.86 km) although those under 50 who miss out the climb would not be able to win one of the prizes.
The shorter Little Walk walk is 10 miles and is nearly all on road. It takes in some of the best parts of the marathon route without the rigours of Brown Clee Hill and the off road demanding section.
The fee for both groups is £22 (Non-Refundable) which provides a contribution to not only the expenses of running the event but also towards Lions charity funds.
To register on the day will cost £25.00.

Is a very popular event for children aged between 9 and 15 years (on the day of the event). The 7.06 mile (11.36 km) route starts at 12pm at Cleobury North Village Hall.
The route takes the Juniors to the very top of the Brown Clee, a very steep climb of 1230 feet (375 metres). Accompanied by Cycle Outriders and with a water station every mile. We prioritise the safety of our young participants providing Marshalls and Safeguarding Officers throughout the route.
Entrance fee is £10. Parents, other family members and friends are welcome to cheer the children at the start and welcome them back at the finish at approximately 13.00.
Bridgnorth Lions Family Walk
Starts at 12.45 from Cleobury North Village Hall
Early Bird Offer £5.00 person up to 28th Feb. £6.00 PP After.
Beginning at 12.45 the route starts and finishes at Cleobury North Village Hall and follows that of the Junior Walk without the more strenuous stretch to the top of Brown Clee. Family Walkers can choose to follow an all on-road route, that is disability and wheelchair friendly.
With water stations at every mile there is every opportunity to stretch your legs and enjoy a real family day out.
Please note, the off-road path at the start of the Brown Clee section is unfortunately not suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs but a short diversion is available which follows a slightly shorter route along the country lane.
Marshalls & Volunteers
Helping us to organise the event
The Bridgnorth Lions Walk and Marathon is only possible because of the many people who help us on the day. This includes our registration team, marshalls, water station volunteers, local running clubs, first aiders and many others. We also rely on the facilities provided by Bridgnorth Town Council, Shropshire Council, Viscount Boyne, Clee St Margaret Parish Council and Cleobury North Village Hall committee. In addition many residents along the route provide essential facilities for the Walkers and Runners and our marshals.
Planning for the Walk and Marathon starts in the previous September and there are many ways in which you could contribute to the organising and running of this wonderful event. We are keen to bring in new volunteers on the day and if you feel this is something you would like to be involved with please get in touch.
