Working Together Wiith Our Green Shop To Help Our Environment

Our Green Shop Landscape

The Lions Recycling Hub

Bridgnorth Lions have partnered with ‘Our Green Shop’ in Waterloo Terrace, High Town to host new our recycling hub for print cartridges, mobile phones, foreign coins and spectacles.

The new facility means the Club can continue converting used and unwanted items into valuable funds that help good causes, locally, national and internationally.

Through the club, we have been collecting and recycling items for many years. For instance, well over 13,000 pairs of spectacles have been collected, with almost 3000 pairs received in the last year alone. Donated glasses are resorted and graded and shipped to many countries around the world, such as Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka, Ghana, Nigeria and Nepal.

Our Green Shop

The idea for Our Green Shop was hatched by a group of environmental and anti-plastic campaigners together with whole-food customers of the St Mary’s Street Maximum Healthfood shop which was closing.

The group were keen to replace old shop the with a strong independent community-run whole-food shop which sold an even wider range of ethical and sustainable products using a zero-waste “technologies” such as gravity bins, scoop bins and reusable containers.

Our Green Shop has a wall of gravity and scoop bins for dry food staples and snacks as well as glass jars containing loose herbs and small seeds. Using these refillable containers enables customers to buy from the shop using their own packaging and reducing single use plastic.

Our aim is:

To encourage and enable local people to adopt healthy, low-carbon, low- waste lifestyles, and foster the development of a sustainable and inclusive local economy”.

That means we shall:

  • sell healthy organic food

  • reduce packaging and avoid unnecessary plastic

  • choose local suppliers

  • promote fair trade products

  • reduce our energy use

  • Sell products which help our customers reduce their carbon footprint

Organic healthy food and ethical products are often expensive. As we expand, we aim to keep our prices as low as possible by:

  • buying more products in bulk quantities

  • provide a refill service to reduce packaging

  • Operate with volunteers to add value to
    our service
