PRESS RELEASE

Bridgnorth Lions Club, after long and detailed deliberations have decided that the Raft Regatta of 2006 will be the last.

Over recent years, the event which has raised well in excess of £1.5 million over 27 years, has become difficult to police, with the advent of stringent health and safety regulations, and rightly so. It has become evident to us that we are unable to comply with our risk assessment. Therefore for us to continue under these circumstances would be reckless and irresponsible.

Bridgnorth Lions Club would like to thank all its friends and sponsors who have helped us over the years. To the Rafters, we can only say thank you, which does not seem very much considering what you have given, the event would not have lasted 27 years without those many thousands of you who have completed the tortuous 10 mile trip.
